‘In The Flesh’ this spring…

Hi folks.

Firstly, a belated ‘Happy New Year’ to all our fellow Floydies – and apologies for the lack of blog posts lately (it’s been a massively busy time for the admin people!). A huge thank you to everyone who came to see us in Nuneaton at the end of January as we kicked off our 2019 schedule, the band’s 23rd consecutive year of live shows! What an incredible atmosphere you created. The Queen’s Hall was pretty much full and the reaction coming back at us on stage was just amazing.

Rather than simply posting about just the next show, we have a number of exciting gigs we’re looking forward to in the coming months that we wanted to let you know about.

First up is a return to ‘The Pot’ when we head up to Derby on Saturday 16th February for our annual gig at The Flowerpot on King Stree. Always an amazing night – and one that usually sells out so make sure you get your tickets booked this week. Advance tickets are available from the promoter’s website at www.rawpromo.co.uk

Then exactly a month later on Saturday 16th March we play our first show in north west Leicestershire for many years. We’re excited to be bringing our full show to The Palace, High Street, Ibstock and tickets are now available to buy from the venue, or to reserve by calling 01530 262400 or emailing enquiries@thepalaceibstock.co.uk

April sees us return to The Village Hall in Marchington near Uttoxeter on Saturday 6th April. Our show sold out when we made our debut there back in December 2017, and we’re told tickets are moving quickly again already so we can’t wait to return. Contact the promoter for advance tickets via 01283 820394 or info@dogandpartridgemarchington.co.uk

The Swan Theatre in Worcester beckons in May. Saturday 11th to be precise. We’ve been playing this wonderful volunteer-run theatre since 2004 and it will always be a part of our annual diary for as long as we continue. We LOVE it there. The stage set and facilities are quite simply top notch, making it the best place to perform and watch our full show. Tickets are already on sale here.

Then at the end of May we’re back in Worcestershire to make a rare fesitval appearance when we go to the beautiful new location for the MELLO FESTIVAL, now based at Severn End Country Estate, Hanley Castle, Worcestershire. Mello is very much a family-orientated festival and takes place over the Spring Bank Holiday weekend. We’re due to play on the Saturday (25th), though our exact stage time is still to be confirmed as we write this.

All our shows are detailed on our ‘LIVE’ page so please check there for details, or you can always email us at band@pinkfloydtribute.co.uk with any queries. We always reply promptly!

Thank you for your continued support. Shine On!

Home, home again…

Hi folks.

Firstly, a big thank you for agreeing to opt in to our subscribers list. GDPR eh? What a ball ache!

Now that Adrian is all settled in we can’t wait to show him off in the band’s original home town of Coventry a week on Saturday… 11th August to be precise. And specifically at The Albany Club on Earlsdon Street.

This is our first local gig since we played The Empire in 2016 so it’s been a while coming and we hope to see many of you there. DSOTW has its roots in playing small venues in and around Coventry going back over 20 years now. Whilst those two decades have seen us play many fantastic shows all over the UK it’s always great to come ‘home’ again. So, why not come on down and see how the band has developed recently? And also say ‘hello’ to our new boy!

Advance tickets are available behind the bar at the venue, or simply give up a crisp tenner on the door! The concert room upstairs is where you’ll find us and that will be open to the public from 8pm. We’ll start making some noise at 8.45pm.

Shine on!

Adrian… In The Flesh

Hi there.

Next Saturday is a big occasion in the history of DSOTW when, despite the band having been in existence for 22 years, we see the debut of only our 3rd lead guitarist. Taking on that David Gilmour mantle, and following in the footsteps of firstly John Wall and more recently Andy Nixon, the extremely talented Adrian Stokes will make his debut with the band at Norden Farm Centre For The Arts on Saturday 2nd June. If we could have hand-picked somewhere for the occasion it could well have been this place… it’s an amazing venue with a beautiful and unique character all of it’s own. We’ve performed here twice previously and simply love the place. Tickets are available via the venue’s website:
https://norden.farm/events/dark-side-of-the-wall-43

This will be followed by our annual show at The Benn Hall Venue in Rugby on Saturday 30th June. Tickets are sale for that now. Check out our ‘Live’ page for details.

Look forward to seeing you at one of the shows soon!

Andy’s Pink Floyd Swansong

Hi everyone.

Here’s our latest press release ahead of our show in Worcester at the end of this month (28th April)…

The award-winning ‘Dark Side Of The Wall’ roll up at The Swan Theatre in Worcester on Saturday 28th April and this year’s show promises to be an emotional occasion as it will be the last appearance with the band of their long-serving lead guitarist, Andy Nixon.

The band’s manager and bass player Steve Chilton says, “Andy joined us in 2004 and having played nearly 200 DSOTW shows has decided the time has come to move on in order to take up a full-time career in the music industry. We’re going to miss him that’s for sure, as both a musician and a friend. However, it’s fitting that his final show with us will be at a theatre where we’ve all enjoyed so many great nights over the years. I’m sure the local people who support our annual Swan Theatre shows will take this opportunity to see us with Andy one last time.”

Steve continues, “This is not all bad news though… we auditioned new guitarists earlier this year following Andy’s decision, and we’re thrilled to announce we have the excellent Adrian Stokes joining us following the Swan Theatre show. Meantime, we’re determined to put everything into enjoying Andy’s swansong in front of our Worcester-based fans.”

Make sure you secure advance tickets by calling The Swan Theatre’s box office on 01905 611427 or visiting their website at www.worcesterlive.co.uk

Hope to see you in Worcester!

As one era ends – another one dawns

We’ve reached another one of those milestones in the band’s history… after more than 12 years as our lead guitarist, the legend that is Andy Nixon will shortly be standing down in order to pursue a professional career in music. Being not just our guitarist but also a great friend, Andy’s decision is not one he’s made lightly. However, it is one that he needs to make in order to fulfil professional opportunities within the music industry and the rest of us are not only fully supportive of him, but also wish our very good friend every success and will be forever grateful to Andy for not just his unbelievable talent but also for his brilliant company, be it in the rehearsal room, at the gigs, in the pub, on our trips away, or even just on the phone… Mr Nixon will always be “one of the band” to us and this will definitely not be the last we see of him.

Back in 2004 when our original guitarist John Wall said he was standing down we thought that was it, we’d have to finish. No-one could possibly replace John… Andy proved that not only could it be done, it could also move the band forward. We fully intend for that to happen again and after holding auditions in recent weeks (and we sincerely thank the incredible players who came along to play a few numbers with us!) we’re absolutely delighted to have recruited the extremely talented Adrian Stokes to take on the crucial David Gilmour duties!

Now for the ‘when’… Andy will play his last show with us at The Swan Theatre in Worcester on Saturday 28th April before he immerses himself in a UK tour with another production. That means his last ‘local’ gig will be the Queens Hall in Nuneaton on Saturday 17th March. So, all you fellow midlanders who have appreciated this special musician’s talents over the years, please come down and make his last ‘local’ gig one to remember. No doubt our audience down in Worcester will also make the show at The Swan an amazing and emotional occasion. Advance tickets are on sale now for both these shows. See our ‘Live’ page for details.

With no DSOTW show in May, Adrian will be making his live debut with us when we head down to Maidenhead on Saturday 2nd June, followed by our annual return to The Benn Hall in Rugby on Saturday 30th June. After yesterday’s rehearsal we’re all really excited about how Adrian is fitting in and we look forward to everyone welcoming him in the DSOTW family.

See you in Nuneaton & Worcester!
